The Sandum people have unanimously reëlected Gaius Soergel Publicola as our micronation’s monarch. Out of seven eligible and active voters, seven votes were cast in the first election since the monarch’s title was renamed to Upasaka, Soergel’s title as an ordained Buddhist householder. Participation in this year’s election was up from last year’s when only six votes were cast, and there were nine eligible and active voters.

Two petitions were filed this election. One asked that the Upasaka address “overconsumption, making it national policy that Sandum citizens are not to use the Earth’s resources negligently and/or in excess, and that any resource used must follow the most appropriate means of disposal available to them as ethical product stewards.” The other asked them to “continue to pursue efforts to codify our laws and rights as a constitution or other form of social contract.” Both of these petitions the Upasaka will address in due time.
