Polls have opened in Sandus’s thirteenth Winter Solstice Election, but this will be the first time the Sandum people will be asked whether the micronation’s monarch under their new title, Upasaka, has the requisite legitimacy to govern Sandus. Emails containing citizens’ ballots and with the necessary security string have been sent to all eligible voters, who have until 20 December to vote in the election. Results will be announced on the solstice, 21 December.
Polls opened shortly after the Upasaka published their Blue Lecture, the monarch’s annual speech on the state of the micronation. Equivalent to a speech from the throne, this year’s Blue Lecture focused on the Upasaka’s goals in the next year to focus on simplifying Sandum government and fulfilling the proposals of last year’s «Sandus for Householders» Plan. This year, the lecture included several new proposals, such as adopting a new law levying a charity and service tax, establishing a new type of economic organ called the collaborative, and establishing communalism and mutual aid as key principles of Sandum government.
